Dear Macintosh Developer:
With the help and support of Mike Agron of the Apple Computer Government state team and with co-sponsorship from MacNexus, the Odyssey Group is pleased to announce Odyssey III. The event will be held on November 7, 1993, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Red Lion Inn in downtown Sacramento. We would like to invite you to exhibit and sell your product at the Odyssey.
We would be pleased if your company would participate in this event. We have revised the scope of the Odyssey and turned it into an entirely new event. We have moved our event to a central downtown location and have a large advertising budget to promote it.
Your company will benefit from attending because we will be using Apple leverage to pull decision makers and influencers from local agencies and industries. We estimate that there are 350,000 Macintosh computers in the Sacramento area, and with Apple’s help we will be targeting those persons who are buyers of your products. You will get direct contact with these qualified buyers. You need to participate in this event, because surely your competitors will be present.
To increase attendance, we will have a door prize and celebrities. We have an advertising budget this year and we intend to exploit advertising to the fullest extent possible.
Odyssey Group, in conjunction with MacNexus and Apple Computer/Sacramento, can put on a professionally organized trade show at an extremely low cost due to volunteer people power from MacNexus members. And all MacNexus members benefit by being able to speak with vendors, see products demonstrated, and attend low-cost seminars without having to leave the Sacramento area.
The Macintosh popularized the graphic interface and brought it to millions of homes. Windows expanded on this by bringing a graphic interface to computers previously limited by a character interface. We have opened our event to vendors who market both Mac and Windows version of the same product because many of our members work in mixed environments.
Funds from this event will go towards building a graphic communications system that links MacNexus members in six different cities. Your financial support for this event will help make this Macintosh communications network a reality. Local online communications system will better allow MacNexus to reach out to members and to potential members. These are the people who hear about your products from other members, and who introduce your product into their departments at work.
If your company can’t support the event by attending, please donate some software for the silent auction fund-raiser. You’ll find all the details on the sheet of paper entitled “Prices & Deadlines.”
We hope to see you in November. This event is the week before Comdex, and our research revealed no competing trade shows for this particular date. A packet is enclosed containing our marketing plan, event overview, advertising deadlines and exhibitor pricing. Please call if you have any questions about the enclosed packet or about Odyssey III.

Generating Floor Traffic
This event is geared towards a large circulating crowd. To maximize foot traffic through the exhibit room, all the popular MacNexus activities are scattered throughout the exhibits. These include the MacNexus public domain disk library, the silent auction, Club Internet, a Macintosh art show, and short “help sessions” put on by MacNexus members. We have gone out of our way to ensure that the exhibit area will be busy.
MacNexus will also provide a grand prize. Attendees will have to qualify to win the grand prize by visiting a minimum number of booths. We call this an “Odyssey” because attendees will be given a score card that they will have to have signed off at certain checkpoints on the exhibit floor. Attendees will need a minimum number of completed boxes on their Odyssey score card before their name will be entered into the door prize drawing.

Exhibitor Space Your admission price buys you a booth and mention in our advertising. Booths consist of pipe and drape and are 10 x 8 in size. An outlet is provided in each booth. Booth furniture includes a counter for your computer equipment and a stool to sit on. The booth will have a 42” sign bearing the name of your company. Can’t Attend This Year?
If your company is unable to participate in Odyssey III this year, we hope at the very least that you will donate some hardware or software for the silent auction.
The silent auction is an annual MacNexus fund raiser and allows MacNexus to do more things and provide more services to its members.
If you donate product, we will mention your company as a donor in the show guide that will be available to attendees on the day of the event. (If you participate in the event as a paid exhibitor, we’ll also run your logo in our day of event materials and in our print advertising.)
